ALKANE

Define a process stream once, and every module works from it. Sixteen calculation modules for hydrocarbon process and pipeline work, with full Peng-Robinson calculations running on the phone or tablet itself and every method named and sourced.

Shown above is an example of the charting included in the Phase Boundary & Density Solver. In this example an analysis was conducted on an Eastern Australian, condensate composition. The traced envelope shows the phase boundary, critical point, cricondentherm, and cricondenbar, along with the current process operating point, depicted here at 1750.00 kPa(g) / 135.00°C. The chart also includes a density map allowing users to visualize the change in density irrespective of the phase envelope itself.

One composition, every module

Entered once. Resolved in the background.

Enter a process stream component by component, or recall a saved profile. ALKANE's shared Peng-Robinson engine then resolves the properties each calculation needs — density, viscosity, phase state, equilibrium K-values — in the background. An engineer can evaluate a phase envelope, an orifice plate and a compressor duty in sequence without re-entering the fluid. Two streams can be held at once and switched between.

Guided entry. Composition-driven modules run as a short step sequence — composition, conditions, results — with inputs checked as they are entered.

Invalid states held, with the reason. A composition that does not total 100%, a liquid feed to a compressor, a gas inlet to a pump: ALKANE holds the calculation and states the reason instead of producing a number.

Results with their basis. Where a result needs interpretation — phase state, hydrate margin, discharge condition — the module states what was calculated and the basis it rests on.

Reports. Composition-driven modules export a PDF record of the inputs and results.

Component library. ALKANE covers hydrocarbons from C1 to C20, along with common aromatics, inerts, acid gases and odourants. Users can enter an exact composition component by component, or switch the heavier fractions to a built-in lumped mode, which distributes a laboratory total across its carbon numbers using the Katz (1983) method.

Stream A composition, Review & Confirm step: a saved 'Shah Ultra-Sour Gas (UAE)' composition of eight components, with the specification status confirming a valid 100.000% total and the option to save the composition as a preset before confirming it for use across the suite.

Who it's for

Sixteen modules, organised by the work they support

Process engineers

Where a stream sits against its phase envelope, the temperature and phase after a choke or control valve and the margin to hydrates, and how a vessel behaves when it is blown down.

Operations

Gas held in a line and the time to pack it, tank inventory between dips, heating value and Wobbe Index, flow and batch totals, and a field guide when a symptom appears.

Instrumentation and metering

What every point of a loop should read, level transmitter range values, orifice plate sizing and verification, and control valve sizing.

Rotating equipment

Compressor discharge temperature, head and power, reciprocating train performance and field efficiency, and pump head and NPSH.

Why engineers can trust it

Every result traceable to its method

Every method named and sourced. 46 named methods sit on the shared engine. Each is cited to its source paper or standard, or identified as developed in-house, and its scope is stated. Technology & Methodology →

Checked against published data. ALKANE's built-in V&V Diagnostics module reproduces published reference values and reports whether the engines match. Results are reported in full, including any case that does not match. Validation & Verification →

Calculates on the device. Equation-of-state flashes, phase envelopes and depressurisation runs execute on the phone or tablet itself, in the site office, the control room or the camp, with no workstation or licence server involved. Composition and process data are never uploaded, keeping the user in control of how their data is managed. Security & Data →
