CENTRIFUGAL PUMP ANALYSIS
Centrifugal pump total dynamic head and NPSH.
- Peng-Robinson equation of state (for composition-defined fluids)
Centrifugal Pump Analysis calculates total dynamic head, power and available NPSH for a centrifugal pump, with the suction condition confirmed as liquid before any figure is produced.
Capabilities
- Total dynamic head from suction and discharge pressure.
- Hydraulic power, pump shaft power and driver input power, with pump and motor efficiency applied.
- Net positive suction head available (NPSHa), screened against a reference margin.
- Suction phase state and density reported; a gas or two-phase inlet is held with the reason stated.
- Water by preset, or any defined hydrocarbon composition.
- Exportable PDF report.
Why the results hold up
Liquid density and vapour pressure for a defined composition come from the Peng-Robinson equation of state at suction conditions; water uses the Kell (1975) density correlation and IAPWS-IF97 saturation pressure. A full phase-equilibrium check on the suction state precedes the calculation, so head and NPSH are never computed against a feed that is not liquid.
Scope
The NPSH margin is a generic screening figure, not the manufacturer’s NPSH-required curve for a specific pump at a specific speed and flow. This screening result is not a substitute for a safety-critical design review; see the Software & Engineering Disclaimer for the suite-wide statement on safety-critical use.
